It takes the whole cast and their families to pull off a SMASH production. Think of it like a homeschool co-op. Most co-ops ask each family to pitch in and teach a class, watch children, prepare food...this is like that. In fact, while the student actors might expect that while they are the actors, their parents are supposed to take care of everything else, not so here!! You are actors, but most of you don't have a lot of lines, so we also want you to take another job. We realize that you may not know exactly how to do the job, but that's what this experience is about. We are here to teach you. You haven't perfected acting Shakespeare either, have you? We're here to teach you acting and theater production. In the end, you might find out that you prefer back stage to acting. You just never know!
Actors who take on a Job outside of acting are eligible for a certificate for that job to go in their portfolio as well as volunteer hours for High school students.
Look in the handbook to see what might suit your skill or interest level. In there you can find a list of the positions required to run the show, and a description of each position. Please remember though, while SMASH has been around a while, it doesn't mean we always have to do everything the same way all the time. The beautiful thing about this group is that it changes with the people who participate. Every family brings its unique set of gifts, talents and insites to the stage and helps SMASH change and grow into an exciting and fun experience. If you'd like to get involved, contact Reese Batchelder or Pastor Sam.
